The Listening Project is a small team of community organizers who will begin canvassing Sullivan County in central PA to assess the impacts of shale gas development on residents. The county itself was chosen for the intensity of drilling activity that has occurred over the last five years, and the lack of non-profit resources to address these local needs.
The organizing team includes people who have grown up in that area and call the region their home. By focusing on listening and relationship building, the project will help SOC learn how we can best support strategic, grassroots-led, movement building for human rights. Following the project’s completion, we plan to share our results with the public, and most importantly, to work with locals to meet the needs of their community.
Our Aims Are:
– Hear experiences of Sullivan County Residents
– Learn about the potential impacts of Shale Gas development on this area’s families & communities.
– Compiling a living history & stories, and sharing them with other communities.
– Building and expanding on relationships with other counties in the Marcellus shalefields of Pennsylvania.
